Alto Maipo Hydropower Project, 531 MW
ATB Riva Calzoni supplied pentocks and hydromechanical equipment of Alto Maipo hydroelectric project in Chile.
Alto Maipo project is a run-of-the-river Hydropower plant with a total installed capacity of 531MW, consisting of two stations, Alfalfal II and Las Lajas, with a capacity of 264MW and 267MW respectively and an estimated annual energy production of 2 320GWh. The plant is located on Maipo River, on Southeast Santiango city in Chile, in Cordillera province.
The contract signed by ATB Riva Calzoni with Strabag includes the design, manufacturing, delivery, installation and commissioning of the complete Hydromechanical Equipment and of the three vertical penstock shafts: two for Las Lajas plant, 160m deep and with a diameter of 3.7m; one for Alfalfal plant, about 600m deep and with a diameter of 2.4, among the deepest shafts in the hydroelectric industry worldwide. The penstocks are made of high strength S690 steel.
Penstocks installation was finalized in 2021. Furthermore, ATB Riva Calzoni is completing the supply and the installation of the Hydromechanical Equipment for the intakes, bottom outlet and the spillway.
