Achwa 1 & 2 Hydropower Projects in Uganda
ATB Riva Calzoni supplied hydromechanical equipment for hydroelectric projects on Achwa River.
Achwa project consists of two run-of-the-river cascade hydroelectric plants, Achwa 1 and Achwa 2, with an installed capacity of 42MW each. Both projects are located in Pader district, on Achwa River in northern Uganda.
The hydroelectric power plants, Achwa 1 and Achwa2, are the first and the second of five projects that ARPE LTD is planning to carry out along Achwa River.
The contracts consist of the design, supply, delivery and installation of the complete Hydromechanical Equipment, including gates, trashracks, stoplogs and other accessories.
In addition to the entire supply of HME, ATB Riva Calzoni has also assisted the client in basic engineering studies on the functionality of the plant, the installation of controls, hydraulic and electric parts to be performed directly on site.
Achwa Hydropower plants are in operation since 2021 and the projects’ total estimated annual generation output is about 375 GWh.
