Revamping blast furnace 1 - ILVA Taranto
In 2014 Semat began operations for the revamping of blast furnace 1 of the Ilva steelworks in Taranto. The work was organized and divided into three different phases.
The first phase concerned the demolition of the refractory floor and of the underlying reinforced concrete floor facing the air distribution piping and the casting area. Following that, those same elements were reconstructed.
The second phase involved the restoration of the walls of the slag tanks and pits. After the removal of the deteriorated concrete cover by cleaning the internal walls, the stripping of the reinforcing rods, and the pressure washing of the revamped surfaces, Semat applied an anticorrosive treatment to the iron frame, positioned the supplementary reinforcement, and reconstructed the bar cover using reinforced concrete with additives. To protect the walls from the abrasive effect of the slag, the internal walls were reinforced with 2 cm thick plates.
Finally, the third and final phase, focused on the new slag granulation and condensation plant of areas A and B, involved the construction of a supporting structure of reinforced concrete basins, the underground cable ways for the power supply and the ground network. In order to speed up execution times and respond to the needs expressed by the client, Semat worked on site in three shifts.
