Construction of dust containment barrier - ILVA Taranto
Work was completed in 2013 for the construction of the system to capture dust along two sides of the Ilva Taranto site. The project involved the construction of 132 foundation plinths 15 meters deep and just as many 1.5 meter diameter piles. Overall, the barrier is 1,600 meters long and has made it possible to further reduce the spread of dust outside the plant, in the Tamburi district, caused by the handling of the raw materials stored in the ore stockyards. The particular weave of the mesh allows the free passage of air while simultaneously blocking the particles of heavy dust. The rainwater and wind, wetting and shaking the mesh, keeps it clean. In addition, by passing through the holes in the mesh the wind dissipates most of its energy discharging it onto the structure, thereby reducing its action on the protected area and limiting the formation of dust.
